    Financial Aid for College

    Here is a sampling of Federal and State grants, loans and scholarships.
    Not all programs are available at all schools, so check with the college of your choice.

    Pell Grant (Federal): Based on Financial need. Deadline is the end of April for fall classes.

    Cal Grant A, B, C (State): For low and middle-income students, based on a combination of financial need and academic ability. Deadline is March 2.

    BOGG - Board of Governors Grant: Based on financial need. Waives the enrollment fee for eligible applicants.

    Supplemental Educational Opportunity Grant (Federal): Often granted to Pell Grant recipients. Based on exceptional financial need.

    College Work-Study Program (Federal): Provides jobs for those with financial need.

    State Work-Study Program: Provides jobs for students to defray expenses and gain career expenses.

    Stafford Loans (Federal): Low-interest loans arranged through a lending agency.

    Perkins Loan Program (Federal): Low-interest loans provided by the college for those with exceptional financial need.

    Supplemental Loans for Students (Federal): Variable interest rate loans arranged through a lending agency.

    Parent Loans for Undergraduate Students (Federal): Loan assumed by the parents of the student from a lending agency. Not based on need.

    Robert C. Byrd Honors Scholarship (Federal): One-time award for high school graduates with outstanding academic achievement.

    Bureau of Indian Affairs Grants (Federal): For Students of Native American Heritage.

    State Extended Opportunities Programs and Services: For students who are disadvantaged educationally, economically, socially, or culturally.
