FedEx is looking for Temporary Delivery Drivers. This position requires 6 months commercial driving experience. Class A driver's license not required.

On June 23, 2009 at the Canyon Oaks Country Club in Chico the 2nd season of Venture Island North State will kick off with a launch party called "The Whole Pina Colada" that will feature businesses from the North State sharing their success stories and their advice on bringing products to market in the current economic environment.
In addition, up to 10 businesses with innovative products will get a chance to "pitch" to investors and business leaders at the event and receive expert feedback. Five companies will gain automatic entry into the upcoming Venture Island North State business competition.
Venture Island is an annual business competition with three "challenges" on July 23, September 10 and October 29 which combine elements of American Idol, Survivor and YouTube.
The winning business will receive a package of prizes, cash and services worth $25,000 or more, unparalleled visibility, and an opportunity to participate in a statewide championship event recognizing California's best entrepreneur in San Diego on November 17-18.
Golden Capital Network and it's local partners are seeking entrepreneurs who want to be contestants. There is no charge to be a contestant. There is no fee to attend the Whole Pina Colada kick-off event.

Informal lunch gatherings for nonprofits
Shasta College is hosting a monthly informal lunch time gathering for nonprofit workers and leaders, beginning in January. Mark your calendars:
When: The second Wednesday of every month, from noon to 1 p.m. Starting in January
Where: The Nonprofit Resource Library at the Shasta College Economic Workforce Division building (the north end of the old downtown mall). Call me if you need directions.
Who: Everyone is invited. Bring your own lunch.
Why?: To connect with other nonprofits; to announce your nonprofit's upcoming events; to increase collaboration among area nonprofits; to hear about available training and educational resources for nonprofits in the community; and to socialize with others who have the same passion for good work and the same tribulations in the nonprofit world!

National Week of the Young Child - April 13-19
The Shasta Women’s Refuge is excited to partner with the California Cascade Association for the Education of Young Children and other local agencies in hosting National Week of the Young Child 2008. This special week, April 13-19, 2008, is designed to highlight the importance of young children and families in our community. The “Paperdoll Project” is back in Shasta County to help promote the National Week of the Young Child 2008.
Hosting a Paperdoll display will be a free and eye-catching way for a business to be identified as family friendly and community minded. Every business and agency that chooses to participate will be sending the message that they support our young children. Participating businesses and agencies will be publicly acknowledged on First 5 Shasta’s web site, thank you advertisements in local papers and other materials published for National Week of the Young Child 2008.

"Take Back the Night" Event - April 24
April is Sexual Assault and Crime Victim's Awareness Month. On Wednesday, April 24 from 5:30pm to 8:45pm, members of the Domestic Violence Coordinating Council (which includes Shasta Women's Refuge, Shasta County Public Health, and others) will be hosting the 13th Annual "Take Back the Day/Take Back the Night" event at the Redding City Hall.
The free event is an invitation for members of the community to join citizens throughout California and the nation to take an active stand against all violent crime, especially sexual assaults.

The November 8, 2007, SmartNet meeting has been rescheduled so that members who wish to may attend the third annual State of the County Breakfast (Thursday morning, November 8, at 7:00 a.m. at the Holiday Inn on Hilltop Drive).
The November SmartNet meeting has been rescheduled for NOVEMBER 29 and will be a COMBINED NOVEMBER/DECEMBER meeting. As usual, the meeting will be held at 8:00 a.m. in the River Room (first floor) at Redding City Hall. Smart Job Fair for The Vistas
Wednesday, October 24

The Smart Business Resource Center is hosting a job fair for The Vistas Assisted Living & Memory Care Community on Wednesday, October 24th from 9am to noon and 1pm - 4pm.
Applications and complete job descriptions are available now at the Smart Center, if applicants would like to fill them out before coming to the job fair.
They will be hiring for the following positions:
Memory Care Coordinator: Responsible for monitoring, training, and coordinating the programming, staffing, and care services for the memory care community.
Resident Assistant: A member of the personal services staff and is responsible for assisting the resident in all areas of care.
Dining Services Coordinator: Responsible for the proper service of meals to residents in the dining room, maintaining cleanliness of the kitchen service areas and record-keeping functions.
Acts as cook. Orders supplies/food, prepares menus, oversees dietary staff including hiring and scheduling. Maintains dietary budget.
Dining Services Assistant: Prepares and serves meals for the dietary department in a safte and appetizing method in compliance with dietary standards, policy and procedures.
Cleans kitchen, washes dishes and returns food to proper storage.
This is a brand new facility in the Redding area.

First 5 Shasta is seeking volunteers interested in serving on its Advisory Committee. There are up to three openings available. The Advisory Committee is responsible for making careful and insightful deliberations on early childhood and Commission-related issues, resulting in recommendations that are critical to the Commission's decision-making process. The Advisory Committee meets monthly and is regularly assigned tasks such as:
- reviewing special opportunity funding requests
- advising on Commission plans and procedures
- advising on education and outreach efforts

The Salvation Army will be collecting all used, old (not working), and excess "e-waste" at this year's Redding Community Business Expo on September 20.
This includes computers, fax machines, copiers, printers, and related electrical equipment including TVs.
They are requesting the community's support in this recycling effort.
The Salvation Army truck will be at the Redding Convention Center, 777 Auditorium Drive, at the entrance to the south parking lot at 8:00am to serve those attending the Business Expo and anyone who would like to dispose of "e-waste" on their way to the office or workplace.

SCEDD - Microenterprise Development Program
Funding for the Shasta Microenterprise Development Program ends August 31 (today), and SCEDD will not be providing training or business counseling past that date.
They are working on securing new funding to reinstate the program and hope to have more information early this fall.
In the meantime, SCEDD will continue to offer the Self-Employment Workshop on the third Tuesday of each month.
Interested individuals can sign up for the workshop, or learn more about other small business resources, by calling SCEDD at 225-2760.

The 9th annual Respect Conference is just around the corner.....October 25, 2007 to be exact! The one-day "Tell Someone, Help Someone" domestic violence conference will be at the Red Lion Hotel in Redding again this year and it is the largest of its kind in the Northstate! CEUs will be available.

- This year's keynote speaker, Dr. Jill Murray is a nationally known psychologist, author and expert on teen dating violence and adult abuse.
- Dr. Murray will also have a teen's only private workshop, so if you work with teens, encourage them to come.
- "Common Sense In Media" will also do a plenary session on the impacts that media violence and sexuality have on families, particularly on children.
- Other topics will include an overview of counselor-victim privilege, constructive conflict resolution, the scope and practice of fatality review, and trauma resolution for adult survivors of sexual abuse....just to name a few.
