Shasta County is known to have a relatively high unemployment rate for California. What’s not nearly as well known is how much help there is in this city for the unemployed. On this page, we’ll cover some of the main industries and opportunities that exist in Shasta County – including in Redding, Anderson, and Shasta Lake.

The Industries

The economy of Shasta County is largely a service economy, with a significant focus on medical services, due to its status as a popular retirement destination for people in California and Oregon.

The top employer in Shasta County is the county itself, followed closely by various hospitals and medical centers. Since the 1990s, Shasta County has diversified away from its lumber-centric origins and most jobs are now in health care and education.

Shasta County is also starting to flourish in manufacturing and tech. New startups, especially at the Shasta Venture Hub, are making for a robust Internet technology scene. Furthermore, recreational manufacturing has taken off, in part due to the combination of low living costs and its relative proximity to the California Bay Area.

The opportunities

There are a number of organizations in Shasta County that make it their mission to connect job seekers with good opportunities. First and foremost, the Smart Center provides online job listings, resources that young adults and other job seekers can use to gain skills, and networking opportunities such as career fairs.

At the same time, the Shasta Economic Development Corporation and their donors seek to bring new employers to the area, and help startups get off the ground.

Agencies like O2 Staffing and Rush can also help job seekers connect with employers. We at the Smart Center work closely with them in order to help everyone we can.

Shasta County is growing – urban professionals are leaving the cities for greener pastures with less traffic and a lower cost of living, and as they’re doing so they are creating jobs.

Opportunities are out there. If you’re looking for jobs in Shasta County, please feel free to contact us.
